Michael Owen backs Chelsea to progress in the Champions League, but does not fancy Arsenal to do so.
Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen said on the UEFA Champions League Tonight Live show on BT Sport Europe on Tuesday evening (December 8) that Chelsea will progress to the last 16 of the Champions League this season.
Owen, though, does not fancy Arsenal to join Premier League rivals Chelsea in the knockout stages of Europe’s premier club competition.
“I think Chelsea will,” said the former Newcastle United striker when asked about Chelsea and Arsenal’s chances. “They just need a draw. Surely a draw or a win for Chelsea. Yes. Arsenal have got it all to do. I don’t fancy Arsenal.”
Chelsea
Chelsea will take on Portuguese giants FC Porto at home in the Champions League Group G on Wednesday evening.
Jose Mourinho’s side are at the top of the group at the moment with 10 points from five matches.
The London outfit are level on points with Porto and ahead on goal difference, and need just a draw to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Arsenal
Arsenal will take on Greek giants Olympiakos away from home at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskakis in Piraeus in the Champions League Group F on Wednesday evening.
Arsene Wenger’s side are third in the group at the moment with just six points from five matches, three points behind second-place Olympiakos.
The Gunners will progress to the last 16 as Group F runners-up if they better Olympiakos’s 3-2 win in London. This means that a 1-0 or a 2-1 win not be enough. Arsenal will need to win 3-2 or by a higher scoreline.
