Michael Owen has told Premier League Productions that he expects Newcastle to survive the threat of relegation come May. The Toon climbed out of the drop zone on Tuesday night – beating Everton 3-1.

Results also went their way on Wednesday night, as Norwich only managed a point against Crystal Palace. Brentford lost to Manchester City, Leeds drew against Aston Villa and West Ham beat Watford on Tuesday night.

It looks good for the Toon. The owners have a relationship with the fans and have spent almost £100million on five players that significantly improve the squad. They have the momentum of all the teams down there.

Newcastle also have a half-decent run of fixtures, taking on Villa, West Ham, Brentford and Brighton in their next four Premier League matches. Owen is confident his old side will avoid the drop in the coming months.

“I think the three that go down, are the three in the bottom three already. I don’t think it is clear cut. Norwich are starting to fly, Burnley have games in hand, Watford aren’t conceding much.

“It could be a fascinating end to the season. Newcastle are upwardly mobile at the moment, I expect them to have too much and pull away,” Owen declared in his analysis on Premier League Production’s Extra Time.

At this stage, anything could happen. Newcastle have talented squad and that is even without Bruno Guimaraes yet to start a match. Kieran Trippier has lifted the entire squad, while Chris Wood is finding his feet.

But Newcastle dragging themselves out of a scrap has pulled the likes of Everton, Leeds and potentially Brentford into a scrap. The latter have played the most games at 24 – and are only a couple ahead.

They have a real chance of being pulled into the mire in the next few weeks. But as Owen says, the likelihood at this stage is that Norwich, Watford and Burnley will suffer relegation come the end of the campaign.
