Michael Owen slammed the ‘rash’ Cristian Romero during Tottenham’s 4-3 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

It was a remarkable game on Merseyside, with Liverpool seeing their 3-0 lead cut out when Richarlison equalised in stoppage-time, only for Diogo Jota to score with minutes left on the clock.

Tottenham fans will feel that they have been through it all, but it all stems from their opening 15 minutes, which included Cristian Romero giving away a penalty.

Whilst the Argentina international is a popular figure with his supporters, his all-action style proves to be costly, at times.

And, once again, it has proven to be the case, with Michael Owen critical of his actions in the first half when he brought down Cody Gakpo, as he told Premier League Productions (30/04/23 at 5:25 pm).

“It was a rash challenge,” said Owen. “We have seen it before from him. I don’t think there is any question, whatsoever (that it’s a penalty).

“It’s almost one you could see coming.”

ROMERO OFF FORM

The World Cup winner might have provided Son Heung-min with his goal today, but for a number of weeks, his performances have been off it.

Yes, those around him aren’t helping, but nor is he helping them.

Saying that, he probably is still Tottenham’s best defensive player, and come next season, he is going to need new players around him in order to improve this leaky backline.
