Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur side have started the season in poor form and they are hammered last night.

Michael Owen has told BT Sport that Mauricio Pochettino does not deserve to be coming under pressure at Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs were beaten 7-2 by Bayern Munich last night in what was a humiliating result.

Tottenham’s run to the Champions League final last season has rather papered over the cracks, as their form in 2019 has been poor.

Spurs have begun this season slowly in the Premier League, have been knocked out of the League Cup by Colchester United, and failed to win either of their firs two games in the Champions League.

The nature of last night’s heavy defeat against Bayern has caused serious questions to be asked about Pochettino.

But Owen thinks that Spurs should be backing their current boss to turn things around.

“We know he can do it. He can get the team there. It’s alright saying he’s done it, can he take them any further but find me another manager who can,” Owen said.

“Getting Tottenham to the final of the Champions League is an astounding achievement, how they have progressed over the last few years… just a sticky patch over a dozen games, the last person I would be pointing fingers at is Pochettino.

“I’d be trusting him, letting him sort out his squad.”

Pochettino is still not under huge pressure at Tottenham, as he has so much credit in reserve, but their form is a concern.

Pochettino will be under no illusions that Spurs cannot continue to get beaten so regularly if they are to live up to expectations this season.

Tottenham are next in action against Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend, when they will be desperate to bounce back.
