Liverpool legend Michael Owen is ‘gutted’ at the departure of Luis Suarez from Liverpool, but believes that his move to Barcelona is best for everyone concerned.

There is no doubt that Suarez will be a miss for the Reds. After all, the 27-year-old was the Merseyside outfit’s best player last season in which they finished second in the Premier League.

However, Suarez’s three-and-a-half years at Liverpool had been peppered with controversies. From racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra to biting Chelsea star Branislav Ivanovic to diving in and around the opposition’s penalty box, the former Ajax star had an eventful time at Anfield.
Suarez’s latest biting incident at the ongoing 2014 World Cup seems to have finally made the Liverpool bosses lose their patience with him.
The former Nacional star bit Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay’s World Cup game against Italy and was subsequently suspended for nine international matches.
The ex- Groningen forward was also banned from all football-related activities for four months, meaning that he will not be available until the end of October.
All this appear to have made Liverpool decide to sell Suarez to Barcelona for a transfer fee reported to be over £63 million.

Many Liverpool fans will agree with Owen (click here to read more). As brilliant a player as Suarez is, his behaviour on many occasions had threatened to tarnish the image that the Premier League club has all around the world.
Moreover, the Reds have received a hefty amount from his sale, which manager Brendan Rodgers can use to reinforce his squad and buy a replacement.
