Michael Owen told Premier League Productions that Jurgen Klopp will be ‘even more’ positive despite Liverpool’s defeat to Leicester City on Saturday.

Compared to last season, this injury-hit and confidence-shattered Liverpool side have looked the shadow of the side that won the Premier League title in such a dominating manner during the previous campaign.

And whilst recent performances against the likes of Brighton, Burnley, Southampton and Newcastle have looked abject.

Former Liverpool hitman Owen thinks performances have been better in recent games, including yesterday despite the loss.

“Liverpool came out and they played brilliant,” said Owen. “That’s as good as I have seen Liverpool for a long time.

“I am thinking about Burnley and Southampton’s. Some of the rubbish we have been watching in recent weeks. It just has been a pale shadow of Liverpool.

“But that’s the problem. All of a sudden one thing goes against you and it cracks your confidence.

“Jurgen Klopp came out after the Man City game and said ‘we played really well’. He was very positive. I think he will be even more so after today. It shows you when things aren’t going right then cracks appear.”

Klopp turned to January signing Ozan Kabak to try and provide some natural quality and stability at the back yesterday.

But he was walking into a team that is flat in confidence and a keeper that is making some very out-of-character mistakes.

The problem for Klopp now is that he cannot turn to much, from a defensive standpoint, other than hoping Fabinho is back for the next match and Jordan Henderson can drop into midfield.
