Michael Owen has claimed that Jurgen Klopp was ‘wound up’ during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Brighton on Saturday, as he told Premier League Productions.

The former striker added that Klopp was ‘ready’ for the Brighton match because he knew how big it was for Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

Whilst a few months ago, some felt that the Premier League title race is over, those on Merseyside had other ideas.

Like they have been doing during the past few years, Liverpool have been relentless in catching those sitting top of the tree.

Given everything that was at stake, Owen feels Klopp was well up for it yesterday, as he also explained how he is feeling ahead of that Etihad showdown.

“He was wound up,” said Owen. “From what we saw of him on the sidelines, he was ready for this one.

“It was an important one for Liverpool. He can’t let Manchester City out of their sights. They have a couple of goals extra, in terms of goals difference, which could play a part.

“And as long as they are in striking distance when they go to the Etihad. I am already excited about it.”

Luis Diaz, who opened the scoring at the Amex Stadium, has made quite the impact and at such an important stage for the Reds.

The Colombian winger has taken Liverpool’s already lethal attacking line-up to the next level.

Not only that, he has allowed Klopp to have someone like Diogo Jota on the bench and not be too fussed about Roberto Firmino being out injured.

The Reds already have one trophy in their cabinet for this season and it remains to be seen if they can add multiple as these final months wear on.
