Michael Owen has claimed that Diego Llorente became ‘obsessed’ with marking Heung-Min Son during Leeds United’s 4-0 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday, as he told Premier League Productions.

The former striker was making reference to Dejan Kulusevski’s ‘brilliant’ goal at Elland Road on Sunday and how Llorente didn’t engage with the Spurs winger because he was too ‘fixated’ with marking Son.

Well, that game was the last straw for Marcelo Bielsa because he was sacked by Leeds on Sunday.

Whilst one manager exits one dugout, those in Spurs colours will be grateful that they still have Antonio Conte after their up and down week.

Nonetheless, this is what Owen had to say about Llorente’s defending from the weekend.

“You think you have seen it all when you see Leeds play,” said Owen. “They make the same mistakes all the time.

“Half of the time, they are so fixated with being man-for-man, sometimes they forget that you can help your mates out.

“He (Llorente) could come and sniff that out but he is thinking ‘that’s not my man’. That’s the problem, he becomes obsessed with his man (Son) and making sure he doesn’t score.

“But absolutely brilliant finish (from Kulusevski), he meant that as well.”

From beating Manchester City last week, to losing at Burnley in midweek and now thrashing Leeds, it has been a typical week for those in Tottenham colours.

There was a lot of noise around Conte’s reaction to that defeat at Turf Moor, but in the end, the players did their talking out on the pitch.

The next stop for Spurs is the FA Cup and an away clash against Championship side, Middlesbrough.

This is where the north London side have to showcase that they have consistency to their game, else the same old problems will continue to roll up again and again.
