Michael Owen and John Terry have applauded Jack Grealish on social media after the Manchester City star scored one of his side’s two goals against Peterborough United in Tuesday night’s FA Cup win.

Grealish, 26, has endured a difficult season since his British-record £100million move from Aston Villa to Manchester City. A few injuries and constant rotation has hindered his momentum, under Pep Guardiola.

Indeed, the England star has scored just four goals in 26 appearances for City – only 11 of which has seen him complete the entire 90 minutes. One of those 90 minute outings came on Tuesday night, in which he scored.

A gorgeous run was met with an equally beautiful ball from Phil Foden. Grealish’s first touch was immense, finishing neatly under Steven Benda. It was City’s second, after Riyad Mahrez scored. Grealish posted on Instagram.

Owen, Terry react: Grealish goal will give Manchester City star a boost

Given the goal was one of his own making, and not just a tap-in, Grealish can take plenty of confidence from it. Foden’s pass was pin point, but it was all about the run and the first touch from Grealish to make it 2-0.

A beautiful bit of football, that shows he is capable of repaying his nine-figure transfer fee in the light blue of Manchester City. It will take time, but he will get there. Owen was full of praise for the England star on Twitter.

He branded Grealish’s goal as “sensational”, and one only the very best players are capable of. Ex-Villa teammate Terry simply replied to his Instagram, with a clapping emoji.
