Michael Owen has told Premier League Productions, during their coverage of Aston Villa’s last game, that Ross Barkley is a player who has frustrated him for a long time now.

Ever since breaking through as a youngster at Everton, there has been a sense that Barkley hasn’t quite fulfilled his talent.

However, since moving to Villa the England international has been in wonderful form.

Barkley has really thrived after being given a role as a key player in Dean Smith’s side.

And Owen thinks that he has seen signs that things may be finally clicking into place for Barkley now.

“I have to admit he’s frustrated me for long periods of time Ross Barkley because you know there’s a player there in him, but he’s not consistent enough,” Owen said.

“He has two great feet, he can strike a ball, he can score goals and see a pass, but I’m waiting for it all to click and have been waiting for it for a long time.

“But wow, on this evidence, it’s starting to click. That front three of him, Grealish and Watkins is good enough to trouble any defence in the Premeir League.”

Villa won 3-0 against Arsenal in their last match, with Barkley and Grealish combining brilliantly.

The duo seem to be bringing the very best out of each other, and Villa are certainly benefiting.

Smith’s side currently sit in sixth place in the Premier League table, which shows a vast improvement on their performance last year.
