The Liverpool centre-back has been in fine form recently.

Michael Owen raved about the quality of Liverpool ace Joel Matip, during his appearance as a pundit on BT Sport last night, admitting that he has been surprised by the centre-back’s form this season.
The 27-year-old joined the Reds on a free transfer from Schalke in the summer of 2016, and he has gone on to make 93 appearances in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Matip has really impressed this season in the absence of Joe Gomez, and it could be argued that he is now regarded by Klopp as the first-choice partner fro Virgil van Dijk.
The Cameroonian has played a key role for Liverpool over the past few months, and Owen admitted that he didn’t think the defender had it in him, when speaking during his appearance as a pundit on BT Sport last night:

“He’s been brilliant this season, Matip, because I didn’t expect it from him if I’m honest. I never really looked at him and thought ‘he’s a Liverpool starter’ in the past. But he’s got the shirt and he’s not let it go.”
Liverpool have every chance of winning both the Premier League title and the Champions League this season, and Matip will have a key role to play for his side between now and the end fo the season, with Joe Gomez being nursed back from injury.
The 27-year-old has surprised many this season, and Klopp will be thinking long may that continue.
