Michael Owen has told Matchday Live that it’s ‘fascinating’ how Dele Alli’s situation at Tottenham has changed amid rumours that he could leave.

The Telegraph have previously claimed that French champions PSG are interested in signing Alli this summer.

Alli has been left out of Tottenham’s previous two matchday squads after he was substituted off at half-time during his side’s opening day Premier League defeat to Everton.

Former Liverpool & Manchester United striker, Owen, suggested that he is amazed at how things have turned for Alli in North London because it was once looking like the team was getting ‘built around him’.

“Fascinating as well, isn’t it?” Owen said. “When Jose Mourinho first came into the club. Everyone was talking about this relationship with Dele Alli and Jose Mourinho.

“He was scoring goals. It was almost like the team was getting built around him. So, fascinating how quickly things can turn and it looks like he might be out of the door.”

Alli’s ability to make intelligent runs off the ball is his speciality, but that has seemingly gone out of his game for a while now.

And instead, his defensive effort, or lack of it, without the ball is now being questioned, and under a Mourinho system, that’s a vital part in the way he plays.

Tanguy Ndombele was on the end of perhaps more harsh treatment from Mourinho for those exact reasons and he is now back in the squad, so there’s no reason why the England man cannot follow suit.
