Glasgow Rangers forward Michael O’Halloran is facing a backlash from the Ibrox faithful after the weekend’s Scottish Cup final.

Rangers forward Michael O’Halloran’s agent Kenny Moyes has insisted to the Daily Record that his client had no idea that his Scottish Cup final ticket placed him amongst the Celtic fans, and admitted that the 27-year-old may need to leave the Gers in the summer.

It has been a frustrating spell for O’Halloran since he joined the Gers. He joined during Mark Warburton’s tenure, but has only managed to make 29 league appearances for the Light Blues in just over two years, with just one brief cameo coming this term.

He has struggled to win over the Rangers fans, and he has certainly done himself no favours after being pictured amongst the Hoops supporters during Saturday’s clash at Hampden Park. But Moyes insisted that O’Halloran had no idea where his ticket for the final would place him.

“He is concerned at how it looks to the Rangers supporters but he thought he would be in a neutral section and didn’t realise until it was too late,” he told the Daily Record.

“Motherwell were keen on signing Michael in January and he requested a ticket for the Cup Final through the SFA to watch the game as a neutral.”

O’Halloran is undoubtedly the forgotten man at Ibrox having featured so little under the likes of Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty. Steven Gerrard’s arrival may hand a number of players a clean slate, but the forward’s agent conceded that he may well be heading for the exit during the coming months.

“Michael hasn’t been given the opportunity to go and play at Rangers. I hope this isn’t the end of his career at Ibrox but he might need to move on but they don’t know how good he can be because he’s not had a chance,” he went on to add.

With Rangers boasting a lot of talent in attack and seemingly being linked with a number of exciting forwards during the early stages of the window, it would certainly appear that O’Halloran may be in for another frustrating season if he sticks around.

It seems highly unlikely that the former St Johnstone man will be the man, but there are often one or two players who enjoy a turnaround in fortunes that no-one saw coming when a new manager arrives. And perhaps O’Halloran may decide to stick around in the hope that something clicks between himself and Gerrard.

But after the backlash following the cup final, there is no question that O’Halloran has an enormous amount of work to do if he hopes to get the Rangers supporters back on side if he does stay this summer.
