O’Halloran left Rangers to join Australian side Melbourne City.
Michael O’Halloran’s disappointing spell at Rangers finally came to an end in the summer after he joined Australia A-League side Melbourne City, but it seems as though his bid to rebuild a career down under is yet to blossom.
The 27-year-old joined Rangers in January 2016, but he managed just 38 appearances for the Gers in his two and a half years at Ibrox, instead being left on the sidelines and even going on loan to former club St. Johnstone in summer of 2017.
O’Halloran was deemed surplus to requirements by Steven Gerrard, with the likes of Ryan Kent, Daniel Candeias, Glenn Middleton, Eros Grezda and Jamie Murphy above him in the pecking order.
The chance to resurrect his stuttering career came in the form of Melbourne City, and O’Halloran came off the bench for 37 minutes of the Australian outfit’s first match of the season.
However, since then, O’Halloran has managed just 52 minutes in total this season including those 37 minutes on his debut – even being left on the bench as an unused substitute in City’s second outing.
On Wednesday morning, O’Halloran was only used for 15 minutes by manager Warren Joyce in the FFA Cup, as Melbourne were knocked out of the competition 2-1 by Western Sydney.
O’Halloran will now surely be questioning his move down under, as he struggles to reignite his career with Melbourne.
