Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers lost Michael O’Halloran to an Australian club.
Michael O’Halloran has revealed to The Glasgow Evening Times that former Rangers target Aaron Mooy counselled him prior to leaving Ibrox.
The 27-year-old attacker left Rangers to join A-League side Melbourne City.
The writing had been on the wall for O’Halloran at the Gers for a while, having played just two minutes of first-team football since being recalled from St Johnstone in January.
Huddersfield Town star and Australia international Mooy, who was linked with a move to the Gers in 2016 [The Record], spent two years with the Melbourne-based club.
And O’Halloran admits that joining the Aussie giants came highly recommended by the Premier League ace.
He told The GET: “I’m coming with high hopes to play my part in a team that I feel are really going places. I’m really looking forward to getting in, working hard and training.
“I’m here to improve the team, and to play my part to try and win the league, which is our first and foremost aim, and also to win the Asian Champions League.
“Aaron Mooy is one of my closest friends in football, he told me it was brilliant – a great club, great place, great people and a great opportunity for me.”
O’Halloran won’t be hugely missed at the Gers; not only because he wasn’t a huge player for them, but because his relationship with the fanbase had soured greatly in recent months.
In May, the former St Johnstone ace was photographed at Hampden Park watching Celtic’s history-clinching Scottish Cup final win over Motherwell with Hoops fans, which rubbed those on the blue side of the Old Firm divide the wrong way.
