Ibrox side Rangers could finish as low as sixth in the Scottish Premiership next season, says Michael Mols.

Speaking to the Glasgow Evening Times, Rangers legend Michael Mols has suggested that his former club could finish anywhere from first to sixth on their big Scottish Premiership return next season.

Rangers, under Mark Warburton, cruised to Premiership promotion this past season by dominating the Scottish Championship, winning it by 11 points in the end.

Three things in particular have contributed to a feeling of optimism around Ibrox ahead of the 2016/17 campaign: the ease in which Rangers won the Championship; the fact they beat Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final, and Warburton’s recruitment drive which has seen Jordan Rossiter and Joey Barton join the Gers.

That being said, challenging Celtic over the course of a season, as well as runners-up Aberdeen of course, is another matter all together.

And the Dutchman, who spent five years at Ibrox, is expecting a fiercely competitive top flight next term, noting that Rangers could finish as high as first, as low as sixth and anything in between.

“For me, it is difficult to judge what the standard will be of the Premiership next season. It’s hard as I have been watching Rangers in the Championship,” he told the Glasgow Evening Times about the Gers.

“If Rangers have a good season, then they could finish somewhere from first to sixth place for me. That’s what I believe.”
