Michael Mols has experienced the Old Firm derby with Rangers.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton

Former Rangers player Michael Mols says Mark Warburton’s men must relish the opportunity to face rivals Celtic at Celtic Park and advises the players to just enjoy it, Evening Times report.

The Gers face Celtic in the Scottish Premiership for the first time in four years following their controversial demotion to the fourth tier of Scottish football for financial irregulations.

Many supporters are hopeful the Ibrox club can challenge the Hoops for the title this season, yet defeat on Saturday could open up an early four-point gap with Celtic having a game in hand.

It is important that Rangers put in a competitive performance at Celtic Park, and former player Mols advises Warburton’s side to enjoy the occasion and keep their composure when it really matters.

“It will be difficult for Rangers and Celtic are top of the league. But anything can happen in those games. The players will know what it means for the club and the supporters and they will be determined to win it,” Mols told the Evening Times.

“Enjoy it, just enjoy it. It is a great game to be involved in, especially when you win. It is easy to get caught up in the game so you have to keep your head cool. If you get caught in incidents, it could cost the team.

“You have to play the game but keep your composure and keep eleven players on the pitch.”

Rangers won the previous meeting between the two sides, emerging victorious from their Scottish Cup semi-final last season on penalties after a 2-2 draw after extra time.

While the Gers will feel they have strengthened their squad from last season, Celtic certainly have the feel of an improved side under Brendan Rodgers and they will start the encounter as favourites.

It is early days and victory for either side will not win them the title, but ending up on the losing side could serve as a huge psychological blow ahead of a busy upcoming schedule.
