Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side were only able to pick up a 1-1 draw against Rapid Vienna in their first friendly match of the season.
Mikael Lustig has told the Glasgow Evening Times that Brendan Rodgers was positive with his Celtic squad, following their 1-1 draw with Rapid Vienna in pre-season.
Celtic had to come from behind to avoid defeat against their Austrian opponents, with Moussa Dembele hitting a leveller.
And Lustig has suggested that Rodgers was pleased with how his Celtic side had performed in the pre-season match.
“It was only a pre-season game, but the second half was a lot better,” Lustig said. “The boys who played in the last 30 minutes did very well. The manager spoke to us at the end. It was a good session and he wanted to tell the players that.
“We know it’s a very important few weeks for us and we need to be switched on straight away. We didn’t play our best football at this time last year. So we know we are probably going to be more confident a year on. It’s about getting fitter and being ready.”
Celtic are still trying to sharpen up, ahead of the new season, and face another friendly fixture against Slavia Prague tomorrow.
Celtic looked short of their best against Rapid Vienna, but there is still plenty of time before Rodgers’ side’s competitive season commences.
The Bhoys’ first competitive match of the season comes towards the end of the month in Champions League qualifying.
Rodgers has already expressed a desire to see Celtic compete in Europe next term, and the Northern Irish boss will want his side to be back to their best in the coming weeks.
