Michael Kim produced some truly sensational golf on day one of the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities.
Kim made 12 birdies and six pars on Friday at the 3M Open as he surged into a three-shot lead at the halfway point of the tournament.
The 33-year-old, who was born in Seoul, South Korea, got hot with the putter early on and he didn’t slow down.
Michael Kim is one of the most popular players on the PGA Tour among fans due to the insightful updates that he provides on his official X account.
His performance at the 3M Open on Friday proves he has so much more to give on the golf course as well.
However, Kim believes he will have to finish ahead of Scottie Scheffler if he is to win this week.

Remarkably, Kim actually didn’t feel supremely confident over every single shot he hit at TPC Twin Cities on Friday.
“Yeah, funny enough, some shots I didn’t feel like supremely confident over, but that’s kind of golf. I was kind of happy I got away with par on 13,“ the 33-year-old admitted.
“But other parts of my game, like my putting felt fantastic. When you hit a putt and it does exactly what you kind of envisioned before you hit it, it’s an awesome feeling. Felt like that all day out there.“
Kim highlighted the importance of not comparing Friday’s round with how he plays on Saturday.
“Yeah, I think it will be important for me to not compare myself tomorrow to today’s round,“ he said.
“Just try to — even if I get off to a poor start or just an OK start, to not be so disappointed that I’m not playing as well as I did today. We still have a long ways to go and that guy named Scottie Scheffler is probably going to throw up a good score today anyway.
“Nowhere near done and hopefully I can shoot a couple good ones for the next couple days.“
Scheffler got his second round underway at 12:44pm local time and he was eight shots adrift of Kim when he teed off.
So the world number one will have to post a very low number if he is to keep pace with Kim heading into the weekend.

Kim became just the 15th man in the history of the game to shoot 59 or lower.
He was asked what that means to him.
“Yeah, I’m one of 15 I guess or the 15th guy to shoot 59,“ Kim replied.
“I kind of remember thinking on 18 that you have to go for it, 60 or 61 doesn’t really make too much of a difference.
“To shoot 59 today was pretty cool and feels like I’m part of the history books, which is great.“
Incredibly, Kim still plans to work on his game after his round.
“Yeah, going to have some lunch,“ he said.
“I don’t hit that many golf balls after rounds and if I do, it’s probably because I played pretty poorly, but today I think I’m going to go out there, hit a few balls just to kind of wind down a little bit.
“Today was an awesome day, but still, I’m only halfway there so still need to kind of get focused up for the weekend.“
