Everton defender Michael Keane has arguably been Marco Silva’s side’s most improved player this term.

Michael Keane has told Everton’s official website that he can’t believe that he was handed the Chairman’s Blueblood Dixie at the Toffees’ awards night.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright always picks a player who he feels has best represented his side’s spirit throughout the season to give the award to, and Keane was the man selected.

The Everton centre-back has enjoyed an excellent campaign at Goodison Park, and arguably been the Toffees’ most improved player.

And Keane admits that he is shocked to have had his efforts recognised in such a manner.

“They are a bunch of legends at this club and hopefully I can become one of those. I’ve never had an award like this before, I’m only 26 so it’s a real surprise and I’m a bit overwhelmed,” he said.

“I didn’t expect it at all, it was a huge shock but a massive honour.”

The England international didn’t manage to show his best form in his first season with the Toffees, but he has proven his worth now.

Keane and Kurt Zouma’s partnership in the heart of Everton’s defence has been very impressive.

Keane may have a new central defensive partner to play with next season though.

Zouma’s loan at Everton has now expired, and he has returned to Chelsea.
