The Everton defender is commanding and brimming with quality, which is just what the Toffees need as they mount a top-four assault.
Everton have quickly and efficiently set about building a squad capable of mounting a challenge for a Champions League place next season, and while a play-maker (namely Gylfi Sigurdsson) and an out-and-out striker are still required, the Toffees have signed quality across the park.
While Sandro Ramirez, Davy Klaassen and Wayne Rooney have generated most of the headlines, the addition of centre-back Michael Keane should not be understated, and the former Burnley man has quickly proved his quality during Everton’s pre-season campaign.
Toffees fans would have been forgiven for knowing little about the 24-year-old prior to his move to Goodison Park. However those who have seen him over the summer know exactly what Everton have on their hands.
Keane is a beast of a centre-back, tall, imposing and not afraid to put his body on the line whenever necessary.
He can play with the ball at his feet, he knows how to tackle and he can read the game in a way many defenders far older than him are yet to grasp.
Having been schooled at Manchester United – who should never have let him go – Keane blossomed at Burnley before moving to Everton earlier this summer.
A solid defender with an air of Kevin Ratcliffe about him, Keane could go down as one of the best signings of the summer and a potential Toffees skipper in the making.
