Charles Oakley revealed that Wayne Gretzky was the only athlete who ever talked back to Michael Jordan.
Charles Oakley once claimed that NHL legend Wayne Gretzky stood up to Michael Jordan during a golf tournament in the Bahamas.
According to the former Chicago Bulls enforcer, Gretzky wasn’t afraid to answer back when Jordan started his usual trash talk — something few athletes ever dared to do.

Wayne Gretzky stood his ground against Michael Jordan during a round of golf
Speaking on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, former NBA star Charles Oakley said Michael Jordan and NHL legend Wayne Gretzky clashed more than once during their time on the course.
“Michael Jordan was on the golf tournament in the Bahamas… they got into it a couple of times. You know, Michael talks stuff to guys; Wayne would go for it. He talked back to Mike.
“He might be the only one guy in the sport. Because most guys just like, ‘Oh my god, Michael!’ But Wayne stood up to him. I liked that.”
Oakley said he respected Gretzky for giving Jordan a taste of his own medicine. “Most guys just let Michael talk and laugh it off,” Oakley noted, “but Wayne went right back at him. That’s what made it fun.”
Oakley’s comments reflect what others close to Jordan have said for years — that his competitive edge isn’t limited to basketball.
Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky earned their GOAT titles
Whether it’s golf, cards, or any other game, Michael Jordan’s trash talk is as much a part of his legacy as his six NBA titles.
Few have ever challenged him head-on, but Wayne Gretzky’s calm confidence made him an exception. Both men built their careers on dominance.
Jordan’s six championships with the Bulls made him the face of basketball excellence, while Gretzky’s four Stanley Cups and record-breaking NHL career earned him the title of hockey’s greatest player.
Their friendly rivalry on the golf course was a rare meeting of two sporting icons — each used to being the best in their own world.
