The former Sunderland man has made a prediction about Newcastle United.

Michael Gray has claimed on Twitter that Newcastle United will win over 100 points en route to being promoted back to the Premier League this season.

Newcastle have been in superb form for most of the Championship campaign and, as it stands, the Magpies’ hopes of bouncing back into the top flight look very promising.

Rafael Benitez’s side edged out Preston North End 2-1 at Deepdale on Saturday to remain top of the Championship, but the gap between them and third-placed Huddersfield was extended to six points after the latter somehow managed to lose 5-0 at Fulham yesterday.

Indeed, the pre-season favourites for promotion are certainly justifying their tag, and Gray, a former Sunderland player, says his old club’s bitter North-East rivals will break the 100-point mark on their way back to the big time.

United are also three points ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion in second spot, and the gap between Newcastle from those outside of the automatic promotion spots looks, at the moment, like it’s going to be extended rather than reduced.
