Chris Wood is linked with a move away from Leeds United this summer.
Michael Gray has told BBC Radio Leeds that he believes linked-away Leeds United hitman Chris Wood is “absolutely loving” playing for the club.
The 25-year-old is linked with a big-money move to the Premier League as Burnley line up a third offer, this one in the region of £15 million according to The Mirror.
Losing the New Zealand striker would be a hammer blow for Leeds’ chances of winning promotion to the top flight come May, given that Wood netted 27 Championship goals last term and 30 across all competitions.
Former Whites midfielder Gray believes it is imperative that United retain the big man’s services beyond this transfer window, but suggests that his body language is positive.
He told BBC Radio Leeds: “I just look at Chris’s body language and he’s enjoying himself. He’s absolutely loving playing for Leeds United. You talk about players who thrive under pressure and know where the back of the net is, he’s one of them.
“If he can get to anywhere near his level last season then Leeds are in with an opportunity of getting to the playoffs. They’ve got to try and keep Chris at the club. He’s the talisman and the one who’s going to finish up all these great moves.”
Wood has, to be fair, looked below par for Leeds so far this season.
Of course, he netted in the 3-2 win at Bolton Wanderers a fortnight ago, but the Whites have drawn 0-0 in their last two league matches, in games where Wood fluffed some great opportunities.
He was tucking chances like those away in his sleep last season and perhaps it is suggestive that something else occupies his mind, but time will tell.
