So, it’s official. There were rumours, and now, Michael Edwards has announced that he’ll be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
It’s a very sad moment, to say the least.
Edwards was pivotal to Liverpool’s success under Jürgen Klopp, making a number of phenomenal signings to fire the Reds to success.
There was Mohamed Salah for just £34m, and also Andy Robertson for £8m.
However, he considers neither of them to be his favourite.
What’s the story?
Well, in an open letter to the Anfield faithful, Edwards hinted that Roberto Firmino is his favourite Liverpool player.
Referencing the Brazilian’s nickname, the transfer guru wrote: “One of the other questions I always get asked is ‘Who was/is your favourite player?’ That’s a really difficult question to answer so I won’t even try. All I will say is my dog is called Bobby.”
In truth, Edwards was spoilt for choice – there are so many quality players at Liverpool, it must be hard to choose a favourite.
The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson, Alisson, Salah, Sadio Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all leading names, so it’s telling that Firmino was chosen.

Given the frequent brilliance of Salah and Mane, it’s easy to gloss over Firmino’s immense qualities.
Since arriving from TSG Hoffenheim in a £29m deal, the Brazil international has been integral to Klopp at Anfield.
The 30-year-old has scored 93 goals in 303 appearances for the Reds, while also providing 70 assists.
In that time, Firmino has won the Premier League, Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
It’s safe to say he was yet another brilliant signing by Edwards.
