RB Leipzig’s Oliver Mintzlaff has played down rumours linking Liverpool’s Michael Edwards with a move to the Bundesliga club.
Reports in Germany suggested on Wednesday that Edwards was being lined up for a move to become Leipzig’s director of football in January.
Edwards’ contract at Liverpool expires at the end of the season.
The Athletic reported in August that Edwards had told Liverpool of his intention to leave Anfield in 2022.
It’s unclear just where Edwards will end up going, but it doesn’t sound like Leipzig will be his destination after all.
Mintzlaff – Leipzig’s CEO – has now indicated to Sky Sports that Edwards will now be joining Leipzig any time soon.
Mintzlaff suggested that Leipzig have already found their preferred candidate for the director of football job.
That may well mean that Edwards heads into 2022 with his future unclear.

One interesting note came from the Daily Mail’s Dominic King on Wednesday, as he claimed that it’s still possible that Edwards stays put at Liverpool.
That would be perfect for Liverpool, who have reaped the rewards of Edwards’ recruiting in recent years.
Who knows where Liverpool would be without Edwards, and this Leipzig scare should tempt FSG into offering him a new deal soon.
Hope can be a dangerous thing, but Liverpool may just have some over Edwards’ future.
