Nottingham Forest defender Michael Dawson shares his thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur star Toby Alderweireld.

Alderweireld could have left Tottenham for another club had they activated a £25 million release clause in his contract in the summer of 2019, as reported on FourFourTwo.
However, no club paid that fee, and the Belgium international is still at Spurs, although the 30-year-old is out of contract at the North London outfit next summer.
Forest defender Dawson, who was on the books of Tottenham from 2005 until 2014, has admitted that he is surprised that Alderweireld – who earns £80,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – is still at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Dawson told Sporting Life about Alderweireld: “It looks like he’ll (Christian Eriksen) be leaving in the summer – as will Alderweireld.
“He has the £25m buyout clause and I thought it was incredible that nobody paid that. Yes he’s 30 but in the going market, money for players has just gone through the roof.”

Tottenham Hotspur stay
Alderweireld is 30 years of age now and has not been at his best so far this season, but there is no doubt that the Belgian is a very good defender who remains an important player for Tottenham.
It is best for Spurs that the former Ajax star did not leave in the summer of 2019.
