Michael Dawson has expressed his delight at Radu Dragusin closing in on a January transfer move to Tottenham Hotspur.

When Spurs fans went to bed last night, they would have feared waking up and watching Bayern Munich hijack their move for the Genoa defender.

But sources have told HITC Football that Radu Dragusin has decided to pick Ange Postecoglou’s side over the Bundesliga champions.

Upon hearing that news, ex-Tottenham centre-back Michael Dawson stated that the news is ‘massive’, as he told Sky Sports News (10/01/24 at 13:10 pm).

It now allows the Spurs manager to play a bonafide centre-back at the heart of the defence, instead of a fullback, with injuries and suspensions hurting him in recent weeks.

Micky van de Ven has returned from the treatment room, whilst Cristian Romero is still on the sidelines, so it will be interesting to see who starts against Manchester United on Sunday.

Either way, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Radu Dragusin plays a part, with Michael Dawson reacting to his capture.

Tottenham beat Bayern Munich to Radu Dragusin

“It’s massive for Spurs,” said Dawson. “That’s probably a position they have been looking at. When Ange Postecoglou came in, you have Ben Davies and Eric Dier. He likes speed at the back. I think we have to note how good Ben Davies has been. He has been magnificent.

“But you look when Micky van de Ven got injured, then Romero got suspended and now injured. You look in that position and go ‘can Spurs really deal with it?’ Now, with the new signing, it looks like it’s going to happen. He’s young, willing to learn and he will bring competition to Micky van de Ven and Romero.

“I think it’s a really positive signing. You have just said there ‘Bayern Munich were looking at him’. It just goes to show where Spurs are going and how important it was to get this deal over the line, it’s a positive signing.”

Ange Postecoglou being backed

You can’t argue that Spurs have been efficient and provided the players Postecoglou wants from the transfer market.

Going by the success rate of the summer transfer window, if the January window matches that, then Spurs are going to be very dangerous during the second half of the campaign.

Tottenham have been here before. When Antonio Conte arrived, they signed Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur in the winter.

Those two arrivals helped push the team into a top-four finish, ahead of Arsenal, and the same could happen again.
