Newcastle United suffered absolute demolition on Sunday afternoon as they lost 5-0 at Leicester City in a dreadful performance.

The Magpies were always facing an uphill task against a flying Foxes side, but they didn’t help themselves as they allowed Ricardo Pereira to saunter forward from right back to score a left-footed effort.

Isaac Hayden then managed to get himself sent off with a straight red card, and Leicester took full advantage after the break, with Jamie Vardy scoring a brace, finding the net either side of a Paul Dummett own goal.

Wilfred Ndidi added a fifth as Leicester rubbed salt into the Newcastle wounds, leaving the Magpies to head back up to Tyneside empty-handed and searching for answers.

Steve Bruce is under huge pressure after a dismal start to the season, and the fact that his side couldn’t even muster a shot on target yesterday is of great concern.

Bruce claimed to The Chronicle at the start of August that he wanted to play attacking football, promising that the Magpies wouldn’t be dull under his stewardship.

That message isn’t translating to the pitch, and ex-Newcastle striker Michael Chopra has suggested that the promise has been broken by the Magpies boss.

Chopra even wonders whether the Newcastle players are still playing for Bruce, branding the performance embarrassing with the attacking comments already looking like empty words.
