Michael Carrick has hit the ground running since taking over as head coach at Manchester United in January.

The 44-year-old stepped into the role after Ruben Amorim was let go, with United considering several options before deciding on Carrick.

Carrick took over at a good time, but deserves credit for the 3 wins from his first three games. The Red Devils are sitting fourth in the league, and are enjoying a run of form that has lifted their spirits significantly.

The mood at Old Trafford is looking better now than it has all season, and Saturday’s early kick-off against Tottenham gives them a chance to extend their winning streak.

If United can take another three points, they’ll keep their unbeaten run alive – stretching back to their 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa on December 21st. With results improving and performances sharp, there’s a lot more positivity around the coaching staff and players these days.

United’s strong start under Carrick included wins over Man City and Arsenal, giving him an immediate lift.

Questions remain about whether United can maintain that form against teams lower down the table. Fulham, though, have looked sharp this season and have shown why they’re comfortably in the top half.

Carrick has been nominated for January’s Premier League Manager of the Month award. He’s up against Sean Dyche (Nottingham Forest), Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth), and Liam Rosenior (Chelsea). During his 14 months in charge, Amorim picked up the award once.

Patrick Dorgu up for Premier League Player of the Month award

While Carrick’s early success hasn’t gone unnoticed, one United player has also caught attention by making the shortlist for Premier League Player of the Month.

Patrick Dorgu has made a strong start to 2026, earning a nomination despite being sidelined since picking up an injury in the 3-2 win over Arsenal at The Emirates.

The Dane contributed an assist in the 2-2 draw with Burnley and found the net in both games against Man City and Arsenal before his injury.

Carrick will be hoping to have Dorgu back soon, but the club hasn’t provided a clear timeline for his return yet.
