Michael Carrick has claimed that ‘there aren’t enough players’ who make runs off the ball like Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son, as he told Premier League Productions.

The former Manchester United coach spoke about coming up and preparing against Tottenham’s record-breaking deadly duo – Son and Harry Kane.

Both players have written their names into the Premier League legendary books by combining for most goals since 1992 (37).

In truth, that number will only increase, as they have plenty of games left to pull further away from the numbers previously set by, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba.

Nonetheless, former Spurs midfielder, Carrick, spoke highly about the qualities Kane and Son bring to the table and how he has prepared for them as a coach.

“Whatever else goes on in the team,” said Carrick. “Whatever other formation or whatever tactics.

“When you have them two together. They have played different ways over the years. Sometimes up as a two. Sometimes as a three, with Son wide and they have mixed it up.

“What I like between them is that they have that understanding they want to pass to each other, as a first look. They might have another option, or somebody might be up, but they are also trying to find each other first because of the appreciation of how good each other are.

“The numbers speak for themselves. It’s not easy to stop. For me, with Son, there aren’t enough players willing to run off the ball and be prepared to make seven, eight or nine runs. You might not get it. But it’s effective.”

It was Mauricio Pochettino who brought Son to Spurs when the club paid £22 million for his talents (Guardian).

What a signing that has turned out to be and one of the best purchases in the club’s history.

But one thing evades these two great players and that’s having medals around their necks.

They may well top the goal combinations list in Premier League history, but every single one of the names around them won trophy after trophy.

So, both Son and Kane, as they head into their 30’s, will be hoping Antonio Conte can work his magic.
