West Ham could soon be welcoming the 2022/23 Championship Manager of the Year to east London after Michael Carrick was nominated.

What’s the story?

Well – according to the MirrorCarrick is a potential option to replace David Moyes at the London Stadium.

The Scot finds himself under huge pressure as West Ham sit 14th in the Premier League – just three points above the relegation zone.

Moyes has managed to keep his job for now, although the Hammers look set to make a managerial change this summer regardless of what happens this season.

If it is Carrick who returns to West Ham as a replacement for the 59-year-old, then supporters should be excited.

The 41-year-old took over from Chris Wilder back in October as Middlesbrough sat just one point above the relegation zone.

Remarkably, Carrick has guided Boro to fourth in the Championship since taking the reins, in what is his first permanent managerial role since retiring from his playing career in 2018.

Vincent Kompany and Mark Robins join Carrick on the EFL’s shortlist for Championship Manager of the Year.

Carrick would be a great choice for West Ham

In our view, Carrick should be West Ham’s No.1 choice to replace Moyes.

The Englishman knows the Hammers well, having emerged from their academy in 1999 before going on to make 153 appearances for the Irons.

Carrick plays quick, exciting football which produces goals.

Chuba Akpom – who seemed finished in England after playing in Greece and Belgium across recent years – has managed to score 26 goals to sit atop the Championship scoring charts this season.

Therefore, it is mouthwatering to think about what Carrick could do with the likes of Gianluca Scamacca, Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma in his free flowing system.

If West Ham are presented with even a slither of an opportunity to hire Carrick, they have to take it.
