Leeds United moved back into the automatic places following their win against Birmingham.
Michael Brown has lauded Kalvin Phillips’ talents and stated that the Leeds man has ‘everything’ in his locker, as he also admitted that he was questioning Marcelo Bielsa’s tactics, something which he thinks he ‘shouldn’t be’ doing.
Leeds recorded a 1-0 win over Birmingham on Saturday, with Bielsa bringing on Eddie Nketiah for Patrick Bamford at half-time.
Making changes as half-time is something which is a norm when it comes to Bielsa, with Phillips, who started the game, rewarding him with the winning goal after 65 minutes.
Speaking to EFL on Quest (19/10/2019 at 9:15 pm), Brown admitted that he started questioning Bielsa’s tactics, as he was making reference to his half-time change and Leeds’ inability to kill off teams when on top.
“He’s a brilliant player,” Brown told EFL on Quest. “What I like the most is his versatility. He can drop into central defence, he can play attacking midfield and holding midfield. For such a young player, I do really like him, he’s got everything.
“It was getting tight. He makes the change at half-time by bringing Nketiah on for Bamford. There has been a lot of talk about that. Can the pair of them play?
“You start questioning Marcelo Bielsa about his tactics, you shouldn’t be, and they finally got that goal. What they have been good at, like the West Brom game, holding out, keeping that clean sheet and seeing the game out.”
In the end, Leeds deserved all three points, as Bielsa’s side, who were beaten by Millwall before the international break, moved back into second place following that Blues clash.
It has been a special week for all those associated with Leeds because on Thursday, they celebrated Leeds’ 100th birthday, with Phillips topping off the week with a win.
But the attention will quickly turn to Tuesday night, where Leeds will travel to Deepdale to take on sixth-placed Preston North End.
