Michael Brown has told Football League World that Leeds United might have lost their element of surprise ahead of next season.
Leeds are favourites to win automatic promotion next term after successfully keeping Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road for another year.
The Whites looked certain to seal their Premier League return last season after spending most of the campaign alternating between first and second place, though Derby beat them in the playoffs after coming third.
Nevertheless, the Elland Road club were still hugely impressive under the renowned Argentine coach, but former Leeds midfielder Brown predicts that the 63-year-old will have to find new ways in which to out-fox his Championship rivals next time around.
He told Football League World “I believe in the squad, I believe in the manager but they won’t be a surprise package like they were last season. People will expect more.
“You always worried that they may run out of steam with that style of play, although they were unlucky with the number of injuries they had. If they can get a couple more game-ready players in then that will help them.”
Brown does have a point and it’s somewhat worrying if he’s right.
Yes, Bielsa had to contend with a lot of injuries, but this was the case for virtually the whole season and yet Leeds still rolled with the punches.
But as the season dragged on, it became harder to win games and it’s a big concern going into next year if Championship teams know the formula to beating the Whites.
