Sky Sports pundit Michael Brown has warned that Aston Villa will not rest players for their clash against Leeds because they will have ambitions of finishing above West Brom.

Dean Smith’s side, who have already secured their playoff spot, travel to Elland Road this Sunday after securing their 10th league win in a row on Monday afternoon.

It has been an amazing few months for those in Claret & Blue, whilst their potential playoff final opponents, Leeds have lost back-to-back games over the Easter period.

Speaking to Sky Sports Football (22/04/2019 at 7:20 pm), former Leeds man Brown spoke about that up and coming Villa clash on Sunday.

“It is a really interesting game and they are flying,” Brown told Sky Sports Football. “People have said ‘when will they rest people because they are in the playoffs’.

“Well, they’ve got a little bit to do. They would want to get above West Brom, their local rivals to try and gain that home advantage.”

At this moment in time, Villa are two points behind fourth-placed West Brom and the team that finishes in that position would seemingly have an advantage going into the two-legged playoff semi-finals.

The reason for that is the first leg would be played away from home for the team in fourth. Villa finished in that position last season and knocked out Tony Pulis’ Boro before losing to Fulham at Wembley.

Nonetheless, despite producing some poor results and performances in recent weeks, Leeds are not yet down and out because if Sheffield United drop points at home to already-relegated Ipswich on Saturday then it would open the door for Leeds once again to finish second.
