Speaking on Optus Sport, Michael Bridges has shared the details of a conversation he had with Liam Cooper ahead of their clash with Manchester United.

The United captain had chatted to the former Whites striker about Leeds’ season so far and the team’s current mindset.

The skipper now believes that there is no pressure at Leeds at the moment as they’ve now secured safety in the Premier League.

“Yeah it’s absolutely incredible. They’ve reached that mark, the magic 40 points. I had a good chat with Liam Cooper a few days ago, the captain of Leeds United, and he said ‘the pressure is off,’ they’re absolutely delighted the target was set for them to survive this season, they have achieved that and anything is a bonus from here until the end of the season,” Bridges said.

“When you’re going up against the arch-rivals, you’ve got to get up for this game, and with the 48 hours Manchester United have had with this Super League talk,  Woodward resigning and the rest of it. The club is in chaos behind the scenes, it’s the perfect time to strike for Leeds United.”

This is certainly interesting to hear, and perhaps a bit worrying.

On one hand, you can look at the lack of pressure as a good thing, the Whites struggled at Old Trafford earlier this season, so perhaps they struggled under that sort of pressure.

However, a lack of pressure could lead to complacency, and as Bridges says, you have to get up for games like this against your bitter rivals.

Fingers crossed United go into this game fully prepared.
