Michael Beale has told Monday’s press conference – as per the Rangers Twitter account – that Ianis Hagi will have a “big role” to play in his Ibrox side during his tenure, with the Romanian set to return to action in a matter of weeks.

Hagi, 23, is yet to play for Rangers this season and has been sidelined since January 2022. It comes after suffering a long-term knee injury during a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen, in which he scored. Rangers take on the Dons on Tuesday.

Romania star Hagi has just signed a new long-term deal. The midfielder was out of contract at the end of the season and Hagi, but his long-term future has been secured by the Gers. Fabrizio Romano says Hagi’s deal is until 2026.

Beale was asked about Hagi given he has signed a new deal. He says that the ex-Fiorentina and Genk star will be an important member of the side – and gives a timescale on when Rangers fans can expect to see Hagi return to action.

Rangers have an abundance of decent attacking options. Of course, Ryan Kent is first choice on the left and it is a fair scrap between Alfredo Morelos and Antonio Colak up top. But the right flank remains up for grabs, going forward.

Scott Wright has been good at times, Malik Tillman is better off in the middle – similarly, Scott Arfield. Fashion Sakala scored on Thursday night but it was hardly a polished performance. Rangers need Hagi back sooner rather than later.

Whether or not Hagi will be the player he was before his injury, time will tell. But Beale has placed faith in the £4m signing – a player who only ever managed to get himself 10 appearances under van Bronckhorst.
