Michael Beale has told his post-match Rangers press conference at Pittodrie that he “loves” working with Ibrox hero Scott Arfield after his injury-time brace on Tuesday night – and says he has been training “ever so well” for Rangers.
Arfield, 34, took his tally to seven goals for the season after coming off the bench just before the hour mark. Rangers were trailing 2-1 and needed some magic from somewhere. That is, even after Fashion Sakala gave his side the lead.
But a gorgeous free-kick from Duk close to half-time, and then a volley from Leighton Clarkson immediately after the break, saw Rangers go behind. It was not until the 95th minute when £10k-a-week Arfield found the back of the net.
Kelle Roos fumbled an effort from Ryan Kent and Arfield was the first to react. Then, after a touch from Connor Goldson, Arfield bundled a winner past Roos to win the game. Beale spoke about Arfield on Rangers official YouTube.

“He’s been training ever so well, but the form of Malik is probably keeping him out. Scotty is a boy that I love working with, he’s super-optimistic. There weren’t many in that last 10 minutes that were playing with optimism, I didn’t feel.
“But he was gambling, he was willing to make that run into the box. You need players to step up in big moments and I’m delighted for Scott. It must’ve been tough for him the last two games because he has been performing well.”
Beale loves working with Rangers hero Arfield after Aberdeen brace
What a game. It had a bit of everything, fans making themselves heard, players playing with intensity and plenty of tackles flying in. Goals, a touch of class in the final third and some questionable defending. Rangers got the win.
Beale might have been hoping for an easy ride at Pittodrie – after the 3-2 win over Hibernian. But it was even more tumultuous. The gaffer looked calm as Arfield somehow squeezed his late goal into the net. But it was anything but.
With a trip to Ross County awaiting on Friday, Rangers and Beale will be hoping for more players to return from injury. The ex-QPR gaffer will be focusing on his side looking to stop the leak at the back, keeping a first clean sheet.
