The Northern Irishman has made a fantastic start to life in charge of Celtic.

Michael Ballack has suggested that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is destined for a job with a bigger club, and hinted that the Northern Irishman may already have his eye on one, The Scottish Sun reports.

Rodgers arrived at Parkhead in the summer. And it is fair to say that he has made a good start to life with the Hoops, guiding Celtic to the top of the Scottish Premiership table – where they already boast a four point lead after seven games – and leading them to the Champions League group stages.

But despite such a promising start, Ballack has hinted that the former Chelsea academy coach could be tempted away from the Bhoys if the right move came up, with the retired Germany midfielder suggesting a return to the Premier League would perhaps signal a step up on the managerial ladder.

“Liverpool and Celtic are big teams. He is a guy who loves football, loves inside football, the real game. I am sure he will make his way,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

“He is good enough also for bigger clubs. No disrespect to Celtic, but, as you know, there are teams as a player or manager that you always have an eye on.

“Chelsea? I don’t know yet. He won’t think or talk about that. Other people should do it and why not? He’s a good guy to work with, he creates a good atmosphere. In the dressing room he knows how to speak and also how to put pressure on the players.”

While Ballack believes that leaving Celtic for another club may represent a step up, it would not be a surprise if Rodgers was not quite as convinced.

The former Liverpool boss is a Hoops fan, and given their dominance in recent years, there is perhaps no club that will give him more opportunities to win trophies.

And, of course, if Celtic can build on their recent draw with Manchester City and put up a good fight in their Champions League group, that will surely make their life easier during future transfer windows which, in turn, should strengthen their hopes of becoming regulars at Europe’s top table once again.

And if he can bring plenty of success to Celtic in the coming years, Rodgers may well decide that he needs a change of scenery, but surely only because he wants a fresh challenge rather than the idea that he deems any other position as a step up.
