Allardyce has been the centre of criticism for Everton fans since his arrival.

Former Everton defender Michael Ball has urged his old side to sack Sam Allardyce in his Liverpool Echo column following Saturday’s disappointing 1-1 draw against Southampton.

The Toffees managed to secure a late point against Mark Hughes’ struggling side in injury time, with Tom Davies scoring a 96th-minute equaliser following Nathan Redmond’s second-half strike.

The Merseyside outfit had gone into the match expecting to pick up three points, but failed to live up to the pre-match expectations despite the Saints going down to 10 men following Maya Yoshida’s red card.

Ball has urged the Everton board to sack Allardyce before the under-fire manager’s criticism becomes tocix and has a detrimental effect on the team ahead of the summer transfer window.

“It really does look like a change is needed because as soon as thousands of Everton fans start booing, they will come out on top,” Ball said.

“The board have to get it right. It is a difficult decision, but they have to get the right manager and get the recruitment right, which has been diabolical for the last 18 months or so.”

Allardyce was appointed manager towards the end of 2017 after the sacking of Ronald Koeman and the caretaker spell of David Unsworth. The former England boss has taken the Toffees from the relegation zone to eighth in the league.

The Sun claim Allardyce, who has also managed the likes of Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Sunderland, is earning £100,000 a week at Goodison Park.

Everton have just one more league game to play, in what is now a dead-rubber against West Ham United – one of Allardyce’s former sides – after David Moyes’ Hammers earned safety following a 2-0 win over Leicester City.
