The ex-Everton ace has laughed off the aspirations of one Liverpool player
Former Everton left-back Michael Ball has suggested on Twitter that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is “deluded” for aiming to emulate Steven Gerrard at Liverpool.
The 24-year-old attacker joined Liverpool in a £40 million move from Arsenal last month.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, who spent six years in North London, was said to be fed up with his wide role under Arsene Wenger and wanted a central midfield place, an idea which Reds boss Jurgen Klopp seems to be open to.
And the England international claimed in an interview with The Times that the Liverpool icon is somebody who he looks up to in football, but the former Everton defender has intimated on social media that he will never reach Gerrard’s level.
Oxlade-Chamberlain made his debut in Saturday’s 5-0 demolition by Manchester City at Eastlands, coming on at half time, but the ex-Arsenal man made very little difference.
It must be noted that Liverpool had 10 men by the time he arrived on the field, with Sadio Mane picking up a first-half red card.
His price-tag raised more than a few eyebrows on the basis that he did very little during his lengthy spell at the Emirates to justify such an exorbitant fee, and there’s question marks over his capacity to be a consistent Premier League player, let alone the next Gerrard.
