Sam Allardyce was recently appointed as the new Everton manager.
Ferguson has been part of the Everton first-team coaching since February 2014, having been working with the club’s Under-18 side since October 2011, according to ESPN.
The former Scotland international striker also enjoyed a good playing career at Goodison Park.
Former Everton defender Ball believes that Allardyce becoming the new manager could see Ferguson come the fore.
Ball wrote in The Liverpool Echo: “I also think that this could be the point that we see Duncan Ferguson coming to the fore a bit more.
“It was good to see him jumping up and down the touchline again this week and he’ll now probably be working for a manager who he’ll probably understand a lot more than he did previously when he had bosses who were talking about possession and slow build up play a lot.
“If Sam Allardyce wants to play in a certain way which is direct, Duncan was probably the main man in his time for playing that way and he could have a lot of input.”
Everton’s recent results and performances have been encouraging, and a couple of more wins should ease relegation worries.
The Merseyside outfit are 10th in the Premier League table at the moment with 18 points from 15 matches.
The Toffees are as many as eight points above the relegation zone and 11 points behind fourth-placed and Merseyside rivals Liverpool.
Everton’s next Premier League game is against Liverpool away from home at Anfield this coming Sunday.
