Everton have sacked Ronald Koeman after a poor start to the season on Monday.
The Toffees are 18th in the Premier League and have won just two of their nine league games this season. The pressure was already mounting on Koeman, and the decision was taken after Saturday’s 5-2 defeat against Arsenal.
Everton have spent big this summer, but the players have been under-performing under Koeman. Many even questioned his team selection and tactical flexibility, but what has been clearly visible is that he was struggling to inspire the team.
The Dutchman became the third Premier League manager to be relieved of his duty after Frank de Boer and Craig Shakespeare were sacked by Crystal Palace and Leicester City respectively.
Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri gave his full backing to Koeman a fortnight ago, but after a poor run of form, it became evident that the Dutchman was running out of support.
Former Everton player Michael Ball took to Twitter and expressed his reaction. He summed up the mood in one word “gone”.
