West Ham United have completed the left-back’s signing, reportedly at Everton’s expense.

Former Everton defender Michael Ball has taken to Twitter in the aftermath of Patrice Evra’s move to West Ham United.

The Hammers confirmed Evra’s arrival on a short-term deal on Wednesday afternoon, four months after his departure from French giants Marseille.

The 36-year-old only moved to the Stade Velodrome last summer, but had his contract terminated after aiming a kick at one of his own fans before a Europa League game – although he is eligible to play for West Ham.

Everton also find themselves in short supply in Evra’s position, although their manager Sam Allardyce said last month that while the Toffees had ‘looked at many left-backs’ they ‘[couldn’t] find the right one’ within the January transfer window.

Perhaps understandably, Evra’s surprise move has prompted a strong reaction on Merseyside – and Ball is the latest to appear to take issue.

The 38-year-old – who was a left-back himself – posted:

Right-back Cuco Martina has played regularly in Leighton Baines’ absence, with the inexperienced Luke Garbutt arguably Everton’s next best option.

Should Everton have made a move for Evra?
