It was the same old story for Leeds United on Saturday as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Charlton Athletic.
Lincoln City manager Michael Appleton has suggested that Leeds United need a Charlie Austin type of striker to solve their attacking woes.
On Saturday, Leeds dropped more valuable points in their bid to earn promotion to the Premier League when they didn’t make their dominance count during their 1-0 defeat at Charlton.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are unfortunately showing the same signs from last season, which played their part in them failing to finish in the automatic places.
Speaking to EFL on Quest (28/09/2019 at 9:30 pm), Appelton believes Leeds would be looking at a player like Austin, as he suggested he would solve their problems up top.
“They are prolific between both boxes,” Appleton told Quest. “But they do miss that goalscorer, there’s no doubt about it. You look at Charlie Austin at a West Brom. That’s the type they would be looking at.”
West Brom secured the signature of Austin in the summer when he made the switch from Premier League side Southampton.
The 30-year-old is yet to score a league goal for Slaven Bilic’s side this season [transfermarkt], but he can put that right on Tuesday night in what is set to be a mouthwatering content against Leeds.
Albion, who are unbeaten so far and sitting top of the Championship table, will travel to Elland Road, as they bid to extend their one-point lead on second-placed Swansea City.
Whilst there will be some worry from Leeds that they are not being ruthless enough, one thing is for sure, just like last season, they will be rivalling the likes of West Brom for those crucial promotion places.
