Micah Richards says Liverpool and Newcastle United transfer target Sofyan Amrabat was ‘outstanding’ for Morocco at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
The former Manchester City defender added that the Fiorentina midfielder was the ‘epitome’ of a Moroccon side that created World Cup history by becoming the first African nation to reach the last four.
It ended with a fourth-placed finish after defeat to Croatia on Saturday, but someone like Amrabat has watched his stock go through the roof during these past few weeks.

The 26-year-old plys his trade in Serie A, but it probably won’t be too long before he is showcasing his talent under the bright, yet very expensive lights of the Premier League stage.
A number of teams in England are keen on taking him on board, with a recent report suggesting that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have been handed a ‘boost’ to sign the player also wanted by Tottenham and Eddie Howe’s high-flying Newcastle.
Nonetheless, Micah Richards named the defensive-minded midfielder in his Team of the Tournament for the 2022 Qatar World Cup and praised his performances, as he told BBC’s Match of the Day.
“That is just brilliant (Amrabat tackle on Mbappe),” said Richards. “He is the epitome of this team. He has been outstanding, not just off the ball, but on the ball as well.
“Dictating play. Starting the attacks from midfield. He has been great.”

AMRABAT SUITS PREMIER LEAGUE FOOTBALL
With the engine Amrabat has, it’s no surprise that Europe’s biggest clubs are probably going to scrap it out for his signature in January.
Given Liverpool’s problems this season, especially in the middle of the park, this is the type of player Klopp needs.
Jordan Henderson isn’t getting any younger, Fabinho is having an off-season, Arthur Melo has been injured since his loan move to Juventus, Harvey Elliott is still very young, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can’t stay out of the treatment room, whilst Thiago’s game isn’t to be the engine in the middle of the park.
Either way, one of the 2022 World Cup’s standout stars is worthy of a move to the Premier League and a team like Liverpool.
