Micah Richards has suggested on BBC Radio 5 Live that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta should look into bringing Mesut Ozil back into the fold.
The former Manchester City right-back, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport, has pointed at the lack of creativity in the current Arsenal team.
Ozil has been left out of Arsenal’s Premier League and Europa League squads, but the German attacking midfielder is eligible to be brought back in January.
The Gunners lost 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the North London derby at the weekend.
Richards said about Ozil on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Ozil has got so much quality, and we have known that for years, years and years.”
The BBC Sport pundit added: “It’s like, ‘We are not creating chances and we have got one of the best creators sat at home’. Surely they have got to sort out their differences.”
Richards continued: “I am not here to defend Ozil because he has not done enough for the last couple of years to suggest that he should be playing for Arsenal Football Club. He has got so much talent and they are crying out for a creative midfielder, and he is sat at home.”
Bring Mesut Ozil back?
Ozil is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season, and it is unlikely that the former Real Madrid star will be offered a new deal.
With the Gunners struggling to create chances and score goals, it would make sense for Arteta to bring the attacking midfielder back into the fold for the second half of the season and enhance their chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League table.
As reported by The London Evening Standard in October, Ozil is training with the Arsenal first team, which means that he is fit and would be able to go straight into the team should he be recalled.
