Micah Richards praised Arsenal central defender David Luiz on Sky Sports Main Event (7:36pm, October 17, 2020) for his performance against Manchester City on Saturday evening.

The former City defender believes that Luiz and Gabriel both played well, despite the Gunners losing the Premier League game at the Etihad Stadium 1-0.

Richards added that he thought that against City at the Etihad Stadium in June 2020, the Brazil international central defender was “calamitous”.

The Englishman said on Sky Sports Main Event (7:36pm, October 17, 2020): “I thought Kyle Walker was outstanding. I thought Gabriel, Luiz.

“Luiz has had a lot of stick, especially the last performance against Manchester City. I said it was calamitous before, but today I thought they did really well. I thought both sides defended really well.”

How did David Luiz play?

Luiz could have done better for the goal that City scored, as he was drawn out of position on the counter-attack.

There was an occasion when the former Chelsea star almost scored an own goal, but he did send a brilliant cross for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang late on.

According to WhoScored, the 33-year-old – who can also operate as a defensive midfielder – took two shots and none was on target, had a pass accuracy of 88.1%, won one header, took 76 touches, attempted one dribble, made two tackles, two interceptions and two clearances, and put in one cross.

So far this season, Luiz has made three starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Arsenal, according to WhoScored.
