Micah Richards has shared in The Daily Mail what Alan Shearer has told him about Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford.

The former Manchester City and Aston Villa right-back rates Bamford highly, and believes that the Leeds striker should be in contention for making the next England squad.

Richards has disclosed the chat he has had with former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer about Bamford – who cost Leeds £7 million in transfer fee when they signed him from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2018, according to Sky Sports.

Richards wrote in The Daily Mail: “It won’t be long before international football is back on the agenda and I hope when it comes around there will be an opportunity for Patrick Bamford.

“People said he would struggle at the start of the season, that he misses too many chances. I spoke to Alan Shearer about him recently. Alan said he does need to become a bit more clinical but he really rates Bamford, as he offers something different.

“Alan’s view backed up what I have been thinking for some time. Bamford has been brilliant for Leeds and 11 goals is excellent return at this stage of the season. I would have him in the England squad, 100 per cent. If he keeps progressing, Gareth Southgate may have him in there, too.”

During the 2019-20 campaign, the former Chelsea and Nottingham Forest striker found the back of the net 16 times and gave two assists in 45 Championship games, according to WhoScored.

Bamford seems to be enjoying himself in the Premier League, and his goals have been important in Leeds having a wonderful campaign so far.
