There’s been a late change to the England squad at the World Cup.
Due to injury, Tino Livramento has had to pull out at the last minute, and the Newcastle star has been replaced by Trevoh Chalobah.
Chalobah being called up on short notice was something of a surprise.
The Chelsea defender can play at right-back, but he isn’t a full-back by trade, so coming in to replace Livramento is a bit of a strange call, especially as Trent Alexander-Arnold is fit and available at right-back.
Speaking on The Rest is Football on Netflix, Micah Richards has been discussing the fact Alexander-Arnold was snubbed once again.
What would you do with Bukayo Saka in England's opener against Croatia?
Risk starting him or bring him off the bench? 🤔
Micah Richards reacts to Trent Alexander-Arnold snub
Richards spoke about the fact Alexander-Arnold has, once again, been left out in the cold for England.
The pundit said that he simply can’t get his head around the fact the former Liverpool man keeps being overlooked.
In fact, Richards went as far as to theorise this could be a personal issue between Alexander-Arnold and Thomas Tuchel.
“Konsa, in terms of defence, brilliant. You know, really good one-on-one defender. But when you need someone who can go forward and deliver into the box, Trent is the best at that, and I don’t understand why he keeps getting overlooked. It just seems to me like it’s personal for no reason,” Richards said.
Thomas Tuchel has been in charge of the England team for some time now, and, throughout that period, he hasn’t been a fan of Alexander-Arnold.
Indeed, the Real Madrid star has played just 26 minutes under Tuchel in a World Cup qualifier against Andorra.
Beyond that, the full-back has been out in the cold, often left out of squads or on the bench.
For one reason or another, Tuchel doesn’t fancy Alexander-Arnold, and it’s somewhat difficult to understand why given how talented the defender is.
